1 Day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Tour
The Ngamba Island Chimpanzee sanctuary was primarily established to offer shelter to d rescued and orphaned chimpanzees.
This day will begin early with our guide from baboon Safaris picking you from your hotel very early in the morning. You will be briefed about the trip and then transfer to the landing site on the shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe where you will take a 45 minutes boat ride to the island on a speed boat.
Arrival at Ngamba Island
Once you arrive at the island you won’t fail to notice other wildlife including the various resident bird species such as the Egyptian goose, singing Black headed weavers, yellow billed dark, the spur winged lapwings, kingfishers, African Open billed storks, fish eagles as well as Sacred, in addition to monitor lizards walking on the lake shore.
You will meet the guides at this sanctuary who will be waiting for you at the visitor’s center.
Have Breakfast and Feed the Chimpanzees
You will be offered a nice cup of coffee or tea, and later led by the care-givers you will head to the raised platform where you will have a chance to clearly observe these amazing apes. You will also have a chance to fees the playful chimpanzees. It’s quite an amazing experience listening to the sound and observing how the chimpanzees call out for food.
You will observe them feed, play, care for each other and rest.
Exploring the Chimp Sanctuary
The care-takers will take through the various centers on this island including:
The Chimpanzee food store: They will explain to you the different foods given to the chimps detailing you why those foods specifically. They will also tell you how they are able to store those foods safe and healthy. Some of the food that they are fed include: cassava, pineapples, cabbage, oranges, carrots, tomatoes, jack fruit, apples, passion fruits and water melons among others.
The Chimpanzee Clinic:
You will the Chimpanzee clinic as well be explained to the various treatment offered as well as medical procedures carried out there. You will be presented the general health status of the chimps at the center at the time.
Swim at the Equator and return to the mainland
Later on in the evening, you will begin the journey back to the mainland, however you will have a stopover at the Uganda-Equator to observe how your boat will be thrust by forces from both the North Pole and South Pole making it remain in almost one place. With keen observation you will notice that the boat engine will have to use more energy in order to move forward past the Equator line crossing
For those of you who would want to enjoy a swim in these waters, you will have a chance to do so here before continuing to the mainland. Our guide will then transfer you back to your hotel and this will be the end of our one day adventure with the chimpanzees.
If interested in swimming, this is the right point and you be given some minutes to enjoy the swimming activity and then finally proceed with the journey.
